Muslim-owned businesses suffered the bulk of the damage. 61,000 Muslims and 10,000 Hindus fled their homes. Preventive arrests of 17,947 Hindus and 3,616 Muslims were made. In total 27,901 Hindus and 7,651 Muslims were arrested. During Rahu's sub period (anter dasha) 1996-99, the Coimbatore bombings (Feb. 14, 1998) 46 deaths, 200 wounded as a result of 13 bomb attacks in 11 places. India fought another (Kargil) war against Pakistan in 1999.

Year 1992-93- Transiting Rahu was again in Scorpio (7^th house) and Ketu in Taurus (1^st house) : When Babri Masjid Demolition and Massive Ram Janambhumi Movement shook the nation in 1992, Rahu was in Scorpio again.

Notions have been there that Babur built a mosque in the place where Lord Rama was born. More than 2,000 people were killed in ensuing riots in many major cities in India and Pakistan. This event again led to a situation of political unrest and uncertainness in the country..

The Bombay Riots in December 1992 and January 1993

The riots started as a result of communal tension prevailing in the city after the Babri Mosque demolition on 6 December 1992. It is commonly believed that the riots occurred in two phases. The first was mainly a Muslim backlash as a result of the Babri Masjid demolition in the week immediately succeeding 6 December 1992 led by Hindu hard-line elements in the city of Ayodhya, around 900 people were believed to be died.

The second phase was a Hindu backlash occurring as a result of the killings of Hindu Mathadi Kamgar (workers) by Muslims in Dongri (an area of South Bombay), stabbing of Hindus in Muslim majority areas and burning of six Hindus including a physically handicapped girl in radhabai chawl. This phase occurred in January 1993 with most incidents reported between 6 January to 20 January.

The Bombay riots were followed by the bomb blasts of 12th March 1993 which resulted in up to 250 fatalities and 700 injuries. It is believed that the attacks were carried out in retaliation for the enormous Muslim casualties and widespread damage to the Muslim owned businesses and properties which occurred during the Bombay riots (source –Wikipedia)

Year 1984 - Transiting Rahu in Taurus (1^st house) and Ketu in Scorpio (7^th house) led to big tensions in Delhi-Punjab due to Khalistan movement. Our late Prime Minister of India, Mrs Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984.

Anti Sikh Riots..

The violence in Delhi was triggered by the assassination of Indira Gandhi on 31 October 1984, by two of her Sikh bodyguards in response to her actions during the preceding months. The Government of India reported 2,700 Sikh deaths however human rights organizations and newspapers report the death toll to be 1,000-1,700. In the aftermath of the pogrom, the Government of India reported 20,000 had fled the city, however the PUCL reported "at least" 50,000 displaced persons.^[7] The most affected regions were neighborhoods in Delhi. Human rights organizations and the newspapers believe the massacre was organized.^[4][8] The collusion of political officials in the massacres and the failure to prosecute any killers alienated normal Sikhs and increased support for the Khalistan movement.^[9] The Akal Takht, the governing religious body of Sikhism, considers the killings to be genocide (source Wikipedia)

Bhopal Gas Tragedy

As India was trying to recover from the sorrows, India's misfortune did not end here and on December 3, 1984 Bhopal Gas Industrial disaster occurred resulting in more than (estimated) 15000 deaths.

Year 1975- Transiting Rahu was in Scorpio (7^th house) and Ketu in Taurus (1^st house) led to Jayaprakash Narayan Movement and Imposition of Emergency in India

1975-77 another Rahu sub phase, there was emergency imposed in India (25th June 1975–21st March 1977) - which was the most controversial periods in the history of India

During this period Parliamentary opposition Parties had long made allegations that Congress has used unfair means to win 1971 elections. The Gandhian socialist Jayaprakash Narayan launched a movement Bihar for a change in provincial government, and increasingly sought to direct popular action against the Central government through Satyagrahs. During this year Indira's coalition party in Gujrat called Janta Party loose the elections and even faced an all-party, no confidence motion in Parliament. In such a situation of political unrest The Internal Emergency was imposed in India on grounds of “imminent danger to the security of India being threatened by internal disturbances" and was lifted after 6 months, only after a decision to hold elections in 1977.

Year 1965-66 - Transiting Rahu again in Taurus (1^st house) and Ketu in Scorpio (7^th house): After 18 years since 1947-48 Rahu came back to India's 1st house in 1965 and as you know we fought second war against Pakistan and our then Prime Minister Pdt. Lal Bahadur Shastriji died in Tashkand, Russia in 1966.

During Rahu's sub period (Anter Dasha) April 1960-63 Mahrashtra and Gujarat separated and India fought a war against China.. April 1965 - Oct 1965 another minor period of Rahu brought India- Pakistan face second war.

Year 1956- Transiting Rahu was in Scorpio (7^th house) and Ketu in Taurus (1^st house) when Mass movements and protests following the States Reorganization Act of 1956 took place in India. The act reorganized the boundaries of India's states along linguistic lines which led to demand for separate states on linguistic basis, and is an ongoing issue in Indian Politics. Movement led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for conversion to Buddhism :Dr. Ambedkar discovered that the Mahar people were originally ancient Buddhist people who were forced to live outside the villages like an outcast as they refused to leave Buddhist practices and eventually they were made into untouchables. In 1955, Dr. Ambedkar, founded the Bharatiya Bauddha Mahasabha (The Buddhist Society of India).He organised a formal public ceremony for himself and his supporters in Nagpur on October 14, 1956. In tradition manner he completed his own conversion and then proceeded to convert a large number (around 500,000) of his supporters to Buddhist Religion. This was one of major mass moments of that time.

Last match between India Vs Sri Lanka: Tri series Final on August 28th, 2010 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla. Sri Lanka won the match by 74 runs.

It’s needless to say Srilanka clearly has an edge over India as far as the World Cup matches are concerned. However, If you take a clue from the divine science “Astrology” just to satisfy your curious mind, India has a 20% better luck of winning their much awaited second world cup title on April 2, 2011…

However, as far as both teams captain’s charts are concerned, both do not indicate much hope for their respective teams. And we have seen he has so far struggled with the bat in this tournament!

But the good news that gives us good hope in India’s favor is, ever since Venus transited to Aquarius on March 23 his team’s luck has improved a lot…so has his luck, after all Venus is transiting in the 7^th house in his chart, indicates Lady luck! Mahi ki team Montera Se Mohali and Mohali se Mumbai Final Maaregi?

As far indication from Srilanka’s luck is concerned their chances also look good as their birth chart (4/2/1948) is very strong with Moon in Scorpio and the Lord of Scorpio “Mars” placed in Leo (the 10^th house) describes its inherent ability to surprise the world with consistent good performance in the last four World Cup tournaments. Srilanka has already won the Wills World Cup in 1996! They are currently going through a favorable time of Mars-Jupiter-Sun which is transiting in Pisces; divine house in their chart...Srilanak’s destiny number is one which is also favorable for them on April 2 that adds to number 1, the year 2011 totals up to four which is their lucky number too!

Over all and above all, my personal biggest bet is master blaster “Sachin Tendulkar” his birth chart (24+4+1973=30) and his excellent form which is the major reason for India’s win in the last three do and die matches…all the planets are in favorable position in his chart on the big day too, that he has waited for so long! Sachin’s favorable numbers are 6, 3, 9, 1…This is his 6^th World Cup, which is the 10^th world cup over all and coincides with his 10 number jersey, the date on April 2 also adds up to 10 (2+4+20+11)

Therefore, heavenly bodies indicate, its going to be a very closely fought contest with fluctuating fortune (60% India’s favor and 40% in Srilanka’s favor) as we have Amavas Moon on April 2, 2011. However, the 2nd decade of 21 century begins with number four (20+11) ruled by Rahu, which indicates many surprises and drastic changes. Rahu a hidden planet, indicates the unfolding of unexpected and sudden events in our lives. Hence, as I said earlier too, India will have to be very careful during this period. India is currently passing through Sun-Rahu period (Sept 2010-Oct 2011), which may result in troublesome situations like external aggression or there could be serious internal disturbances, riots, mass agitations, violence, separation, cheating, and frauds especially till November 2011. Rahu will transit to Scorpio (7th house in India’s Birth Chart) in June 2011 and will stay till Dec 24, 2012, indicates drastic changes, mass revolts, there may be mid-term polls in India or there could be change in leadership at the Prime Minister level. The most violent conflicts took place during Rahu-Sun sub periods in 1947-48, 1965, 1971 and 1999.

Union Budget -Impact On The Economy and.......

The Union Budget 2010-11 presented on last Friday has several important implications for the economy as well as equity and debt markets for the year ahead. Broadly speaking, the government aims to improve its finances by reducing subsidies and normalizing indirect taxes even as it has reduced income taxes on individuals. Over the last couple of years, because of the macro-economic crisis and rise in subsidies due to high commodity prices, the government’s finances weakened considerably and the government has announced a multi-year road map to improve its finances. Specifically this budget aims to reduce the gap between the government’s overall revenue and expenditure, called fiscal deficit, from 6.7% in FY2010 to an estimated 5.5% in FY2011.

The most important driver of improving long-term finances, and indeed generating surpluses necessary for investment, is growth in economic activity. The budget has either maintained the momentum, or increased it, as far as demand drivers of the economy are concerned with more allocations to various development and infrastructure segments. Experts believe that reduction in income taxes on individuals, will put more money into the hands of consumers who in turn will provide a boost to private sector demand. This will also partly neutralize the impact of the rise in prices that will happen in various segments, such as petrol and diesel prices, on account of reduction in subsidies. GDP which is on an improving trend overall, notwithstanding the impact of weak monsoon, will maintain the momentum in FY2011 and will show a higher GDP growth rate than FY2010. As such the budget for the overall economy is growth enabling even though it is likely to be mildly inflationary.

Impact on Equity Markets

What is good for economy is usually good for equity markets. Equity Market experts believe the budget will provide an additional boost to the already strong domestic demand, particularly in the consumption-oriented segments. From corporate revenue and earnings perspective, the budget has positives for consumer sectors such as Auto, negatives for cement and realty sectors and is neutral for banking sector. Also this budget is likely to enable a positive environment for infrastructure and capital goods sectors, given the increased outlays and additional tax break on infrastructure bonds. Overall the budget 2010 will be a year of economic revival, and also a year of strong growth in corporate earnings which is a significant improvement from the flattish trend observed over last two years.

While growth in earnings will remain robust, however the market valuation multiple is likely to remain capped, closer to the long-term trend line levels of 14-15 times one-year forward earnings, given the government’s planned disinvestment target of Rs 40,000 Cr for next year. Experts believe that there is a case for range bound markets in the short-term driven by factors like current valuations and likely supply of paper on account of fresh issuances in the backdrop of resurgent economic growth and capital flows.

Impact on Fixed Income markets

The government has taken the first step towards fiscal consolidation by reducing the deficit to more sustainable levels in the Union budget for FY2011. The government announced a fiscal deficit target of 5.5% of GDP for FY2011 compared to a deficit of 6.7% of GDP registered in FY2010. The government aims to achieve this through Improvement in tax to GDP ratio by increasing excise duty rates, Minimum Alternative Tax paid by corporates and increasing the scope of service tax Less than expected increase in overall expenditure Higher receipts through disinvestment and auction of 3G telecom licenses

As a result the net market borrowing program for the FY 2010-11 has been reduced to Rs. 345,010 cr compared to Rs. 398,411 cr for the FY 2009-10. The commitment by government to further reduce its fiscal deficit to 4.1% of GDP by in FY 2012-13 is likely to lead to lower interest rates in medium term.

However there may be some pressure on government security yields in the near term as the government hits the market with next year’s borrowing program in an environment characterized by rising inflation, possible interest rate hikes by RBI and possibly no support from RBI in the form of Open Market Operation (OMO) purchases of government securities. As a result yields may gradually drift higher from current levels and peak out some time in the first half of next fiscal.

Jan 22, numbers (4 & 8) indicate stock markets may go down further. Sensex may touch 19000 mark

When BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) Sensex closed at 21206.77, its all time high on 10th January 2008; almost every one was saying that this market rally will continue and touch 25000 -28000. But in the same year on 20^th November 2008 the NSE Nifty closed at 2553 points while BSE Sensex closed at 8451 points, its lowest since 14 November 2005.

This obviously created panic and every body was saying that the BSE Sensex will touch 6000 but then market started recovering after 12 March 2009 with Nifty touching 4700 and Sensex 16000 points on August 4, 2009.

With the improved market sentiments several companies are raising funds through various routes such as IPOs (Initial Public Offering), QIPs (Qualified institutional placements) NCDs (non convertible dentures) etc.

But now stock markets are going down again on concerns of poor monsoon rains that have pushed India’s domestic-demand-led economy to the brink of drought, putting pressure on food prices and energy supplies and imperiling growth. Between the start of the monsoon season on June 1 and Wednesday, rainfall was 29 percent below normal.

In such a gloomy situation when there is no clarity or option people turn to astrology to find answers. So the questions few of my friends ask, when will the market improve? Should we invest now? Do stars indicate anything? etc etc.. Some times just to pull my legs! I have no problem with that.

However, as per my own wisdom there are definitely astrological reasons. For example, from June 15 to July 13 BSE Sensex lost about 1800 points. The BSE index closed at 15237 points on June 12, 2009 and from then it was down to 13400 points on July 13, 2009 for exactly one month. As per astronomy Sun moved to Gemini on June 15 while Jupiter turned retrograde (backward movement) in Aquarius sign and as per astrology this is what caused investors’ sentiment turn a bit negative! Jupiter will turn positive in December 2009.

From mid of July Sun as moved into Cancer and BSE Sensex moved up to 16000 levels on August 4, 2009 but this positive momentum may not continue particularly after mid of August due unfavorable planetary positions. Jupiter in its backward journey has moved to Capricorn on July 30, 2009. Which means market sentiments may weaken further in days to come and the share market may go downwards.

Mid of August onwards Sun is transiting in Leo along with Saturn and may not be favorable for markets including government, government owned institutions and companies, political leaders, people in higher authorities and masses in general.

Big Change

On September 9, 2009, Saturn will enter Virgo sign of Indian Zodiac and will stay in this sign for two and half years. Which means the planet of justice will influence the food & beverages industry and grocery business bringing delays and scarcity. The other businesses which may also be impacted are- work market, insurance, entertainment, art, advertising & goodwill values, maritime, shipping, water supply including everyday communication - short travel, internet, mail, phone, media and lower education. Stock markets may move forward quite slowly in the next one year and may touch 19-21k points before Dec 2011.

Challenges Ahead
Returning to a high growth rate is the greatest challenge facing India, with a weak monsoon making the task harder, but the economy may improve by year-end, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in his Independence Day speech on Saturday.

Economy Outlook
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Tuesday he expected growth in 2009/10 to be over six percent, as forecast earlier and in line with a central bank estimate, despite the monsoon shortfall. Low rainfall has slowed the refilling of India's main reservoirs, threatening the supply of hydro-electric power which accounts for a quarter of India's generation and reducing availability of water to irrigate winter-sown crops such as wheat and rapeseed. Farm minister Sharad Pawar said on Monday that India needed to increase the planting of winter-sown crops and improve irrigation to make up for the damage to farms.

We live in a democracy and that means we get a say in who runs our country, and by way of this privilege we also get a say about how our country is run. It is very easy to be blasé about our right to vote and take a "whatever, who cares" kind of attitude about it but we shouldn't brush this great honor off so quickly....so lets Vote and let everyone Vote!

Who's vote will be responsible for the good governance and ethics in public affairs?

Probably those of us who are educated and don't have to worry about the next meal. Remember, we are capable of making correct decisions without depending on anybody's advice or influencing.

Let the Guru vote?

Guru resides within us. He is our inner voice. The voice that distinguishes right from wrong. We call it soul, atma or conscience. It insists on telling us about the morality of each of our actions even when we don't want its opinion. It never leaves us. Those who obey this voice never go wrong. It's that simple.

Contradictions galore- as many developed countries are now becoming a terrified and fearful cluster, Indians are foolishly aping their sentiments, even at the drop of a hat.
